Sustainable Architecture in Tuscany: Inside the Bio-Climatic Design Program

Discover how students learn to design climate-responsive buildings in the heart of Tuscany, combining Renaissance heritage with modern bioclimatic modeling and hands-on field research.

Designing Buildings That Breathe

Bio-climatic architecture designs buildings that work with the local climate instead of against it: natural ventilation, passive solar gain, thermal mass and local materials. In Tuscany, students learn these principles where they were born, among centuries-old stone buildings that stay cool without air conditioning.

Learning in a Living Laboratory

The program is based in Arezzo, where historic architecture becomes a daily classroom. Students study stone conservation within walking distance of Piero della Francesca's frescoes and apply bioclimatic modeling to real heritage contexts.

What You Will Study

  • Principles of passive and bioclimatic design
  • Sustainable materials and local construction traditions
  • Energy modeling and climate-responsive planning
  • Heritage conservation and adaptive reuse
  • Hands-on studio projects and guaranteed field practicum

From Classroom to Career

Graduates work in sustainable architecture studios, heritage conservation and green building consultancy across Europe, supported by the university's network of academic and industry partners.
